چکیده

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the first experience of phacoemulsification in Yemen from 2000-2007 regarding the visual results, and complications. METHODS Two hundred and fifty-eight eyes of 182 adult patients with significant cataract were included during the last 96 months. All eyes underwent phacoemulsification with implantation of intraocular lenses. The results were recorded and statistically analyzed. RESULTS The male:female ratio was 1:1, with an average age of 52 years. Phacoemulsification was carried out by scleral approach in 14 eyes, and by clear corneal approach in 244 eyes. A visual acuity of > or = 6/18 was achieved in 85.3%, and the most common serious complication was intraoperative posterior capsule rupture, which was reported in approximately 10.1%. CONCLUSION The results of phacoemulsification are very impressive, and the most common intraoperative complication was ruptured posterior capsule.

Visual and Refractive Results of Cataract Surgery by Phacoemulsification Method in Patients with Keratoconus

Purpose: To examine the visual and refractive results of cataract surgery by phacoemulsification method in patients with keratoconus. Methods: In this retrospective study, the files of patients with keratoconus, who underwent phacoemulsification between 2008 and 2017, were evaluated. The intraocular lens power calculation formula was SRK/T. Post-operative visual and refractive results were anal...

Visual experience during phacoemulsification cataract surgery under topical anaesthesia.

BACKGROUND/AIMS Visual awareness during phacoemulsification cataract surgery is an important determinant of patient satisfaction with any anaesthetic technique. Topical anaesthesia could be associated with significant visual awareness because it does not affect optic nerve function. METHODS The visual experience during phacoemulsification cataract surgery under topical anaesthesia (without se...

Skeletal and Dentoalveolar Cephalometric Features of Anterior Open Bite among Yemeni Adults

Objective. The aim of this study is to determine the cephalometric features for a sample of Yemeni adults with anterior open bite. Material and Methods. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken for 65 Yemeni university students (46 males and 19 females), 18-25 years old, with clinical anterior open bite (vertical overbite ≤ 0 mm) and no previous orthodontic treatment. The radiographs were m...

Bayesian analyses of Yemeni mitochondrial genomes suggest multiple migration events with Africa and Western Eurasia.

OBJECTIVES Anatomically, modern humans are thought to have migrated out of Africa ∼60,000 years ago in the first successful global dispersal. This initial migration may have passed through Yemen, a region that has experienced multiple migrations events with Africa and Eurasia throughout human history. We use Bayesian phylogenetics to determine how ancient and recent migrations have shaped Yemen...

The use of a pre-operative scoring system for the prediction of phacoemulsification case difficulty and the selection of appropriate cases to be performed by trainees

BACKGROUND To establish whether a previously validated scoring system (Habib) for the prediction of risk or likelihood of posterior capsule rupture during phacoemulsification surgery could be used to: 1. Predict the difficulty of a phacoemulsification case, and 2. Select appropriate phacoemulsification cases for trainees. METHODS The study sample was consecutive phacoemulsification cases unde...
